We took a family trip over the Col du Lautaret passed the foot of the Col d’Izoard and onto the nearby town of Briançon. It certainly is not cycling weather at the moments with the snow up to 2 metres high at the side of the roads on the Lautaret (we tackle this one way on day 3 and the other on day 5 on our Big Col Tour) ! The views as ever in the winter were fantastically white. We drove to the bottom of the Col d’Izoard (tackled as an optional extra on day 4) which had a huge “shut sign” at the base. The town of Briançon where we stay at the end of day 3 and day 4 was as pretty as usual if a little quieter than in the summer.
